God – At this time, year after year, before Christmas Day, the day Your Son, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was born, I am overwhelmed with too many things to do and too many places to go. I have those perfect presents to buy. The important parties I must attend. Gifts to purchase on Amazon. Dinners to plan or host. Greeting cards to sign and mail. Bills to pay. Thank you notes to write. I cannot even think about making my list of New Year’s Resolutions as I worry about everything left for me to do at the office and home before this year is over.
As a young boy I marveled at the Barnum & Bailey Circus when the man would magically balance plate after plate on the end of the sticks and somehow keep them from falling and crashing on the floor. That was fun then. But now, I feel that I am the one having to keep all the plates spinning in the air and still somehow find and share Your peace.
God, as I prepare for Christmas Day, please help me know that Your peace is not found in what is happening outside of me.
God, please help me know that Your peace which surpasses all understanding is only found within me.
Please help me in prayer to find and know Your peace. Amidst all the busyness around me, please help me to take time each day to invite Your peace to reside in me.
Please help me in prayer to make room in the manger of my heart for the peace and joy that should be experienced all year long.
God, in Advent as I prepare for the coming of Christ, please help me keep the plates spinning safely above me. But, most importantly, please help me find and share Your peace with others like me who stand in Advent darkness waiting and hoping for Your loving light born in Bethlehem on Christmas Day. Amen
