Lord, As a collaborative divorce and family law attorney, I am amazed at Your grace which holds married couples together.

Your first miracle was at a wedding at Cana of Galilee when water was turned into wine. Today, with fifty percent of marriages ending in divorce, it seems miraculous when a marriage lasts the tests of time.

Last night, under a tent in Emmottville, we celebrated Howard and Cathy Behrens’ Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary. In the midst of August heat, we all witnessed the fire which still burns in their hearts for each other.

Howard, my first cousin, may have won the Texas Lottery. But, his greatest treasures are Cathy’s love for him and Your love, as Lord, for them.

As each of our days are consumed with doing, working, paying bills, and spending time on electronic devices, let us take time to treasure and celebrate the wedded couples who have kept their vows. Who have kept and renewed their love for each other as You have renewed us with the taste of Your eternal love from the cup of salvation.

To Howard and Cathy, I say,

True love is timeless and eternal.

The two of you have shown,

Love is not just what you say.

It’s what you do day after day.

You’ve had fifty years of laughter and tears.

Fifty years of faith over fears.

Fifty years of joy as this,

So beautiful,

So sweet,

As love’s first kiss.

May we all treasure and celebrate wedding anniversaries of family and friends.

Because of You, God,

True love never ends.
