A Decorated Vietnam Soldier Died Today, June 3, 2017 –

June 4, 2017 by Jack Emmott 14 Comments

Prayer in Memory Carl Gordon Lansford.

Lord, please read these words to Gordon from me.

GORDON AND DOROTHY 2013

Dear Gordon,
My brother-in-law,
My brother in Christ,
I give thanks to God for you.

I am so proud of you.
At age 18 you fought so bravely in the Vietnam War.
America did not win that war.
But, you won three Purple Hearts.
Those symbols of courage were not enough
For the VFW Chapter in your town
To let you in when you came home.
Yet, thanks be to God,
There was always room in the inn of His heart for you.

As a decorated soldier, you fought your greatest battle
After you set foot again on American soil.
You courageously and optimistically faced, one by one,
The ravages of Agent Orange.
The amputation of your legs.
The loss of feeling in your hands and arms.
Kidney failure.
Scarred lungs.
Dialysis.
Doggedly fighting for the healthcare and governmental benefits
Every uniformed American soldier should be awarded
As a tribute for service to our Country.

As with my own bride, Dorothy,
God sent you an angelic wife, Barbara.
He made sure that when there was less and less of you in the physical,
There was more of more of God’s Grace and love in the spiritual
In Barbara’s inexhaustible devotion and care for you.

Today,
Gordon, you lost the final battle
Which you and none of us can ever win.
Yet, you received victory of eternal life over death
Because the God you served
Made the ultimate and greatest sacrifice for you.

God’s purpose for your creation has been fulfilled.

I pray that you enjoy the Heavenly peace,
The freedom of pain,
The joy,
You have so long deserved.

Peace. Love. The Light of Christ to you.

Amen.

Jack Emmott Recognized as a Trailblazer by National Law Journal

June 1, 2017 by Jack Emmott 5 Comments

Congratulations to family law attorney Jack Emmott for being named in the National Law Journal (NLJ)’s second annual “Divorce, Trusts & Estates Trailblazers” list. Jack was selected from a competitive field of nominees, all of whom have “changed the practice in their respective fields through innovative and exceptional legal strategies.”

I am so blessed to be recognized by the National Law Journal in its May 2017 issue for my work in the practice of collaborative law. There are instances which require resolution of family law disputes within the framework of the adversarial court system; I have litigated hundreds of cases.

But, collaborative law process enables couples to resolve their differences privately, peaceably and on their own timetable and without court intervention. For the sake of their children the co-parenting relationship is preserved and protected. That is the legacy I want to leave in my calling; reconciling a broken world one collaborative matter at a time.”

Memorial Day Prayer – May 29, 2017

May 27, 2017 by Jack Emmott Leave a Comment

Jack H. Emmott, Sr. – Machine Gun Instructor, U.S Army 1918

My Grandfather served in the First World War.  He learned the skills to operate a machine gun at Camp Logan, what is now Memorial Park.  Fortunately, he missed the train to Galveston to board the ship to fight on the Killing Fields of Europe.  After missing the train, he came home to his mother, Catherine Mary Emmott. He cried to her about not being at the railroad station on time.  Grandfather, “Paw Paw”, told me his entire unit died in battle.  The average life expectancy of a machine gunner in battle was two minutes.  Paw Paw was assigned to be a trainer in the School of Fire in Georgia. He taught brave soldiers the art by day and rode by horseback at night with Teddy Roosevelt’s nephew to fish on the Savannah River.

I treasure the WWI machine gun bullet box he gave me.

I have pride in his service to our country.

I am thankful for all the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives and who served to preserve our precious liberties.

Lord, May You please bless all Americans who have served or sacrificed their lives in the military to preserve and protect America from evil.  In the giving of their lives we have received the gifts of peace, opportunity and freedom to learn, grow, earn and love.  May Your angels illumine their paths with the light of Christ.  May your unfailing love heal their wounds and comfort the hearts of family and friends left behind.   Amen

My Anniversary Prayer May 20, 2017

May 20, 2017 by Jack Emmott 4 Comments

Dear Lord – Your Son’s first miracle was transforming water into wine at a Wedding at Cana. You sending Dorothy to me was and is nothing short of a true miracle in my life. She is the best part of me. How blessed I am to share my earthly journey with her. For in her touch, her embrace, her words, her smile and her glance I see You and Your everlasting love for me every day. Before our marriage we sat together in the glow of Your grace with Grandmother Emmott. At age 23 I had the trust in You to propose to her on Uncle Army’s pier on a tributary of Lake Houston. Praise to You, Lord, for our marriage 45 years ago today. For in that sacrament, all of the broken pieces of my body from polio were healed by Your love through her, my bride, my angel and my best friend. Amen

A Mother’s Day Prayer – May 14, 2017

May 13, 2017 by Jack Emmott Leave a Comment

Mom, October 1948

God – As You now hold my mother in Your arms in Heaven as she held me as her infant son, I give thanks to You for sending her to me. Her love and care were my very first glimpse of You, my Father. When I looked into her eyes, I saw an angel in disguise. Today I celebrate her time with me. In that gift to me from You I received so much more than unconditional and never failing love. As Your disciple Mother opened a door for my heart to see and be transformed by You, Lord, Your Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen
