Prayer to Surrender to God’s Will – December 1, 2017

December 1, 2017 by Jack Emmott Leave a Comment

God – Years ago, after polio, for five years I needed to go inside the Iron Lung. At first I turned away from the Lung. With prayer, I surrendered to the Lung. The Iron Lung was a process to heal me and to breathe for me when I could not breathe for myself.  The Lung gave me new life so I could live longer and love and serve others. I learned to have faith in the Lung’s respiratory process.

Your children  and I often turn away from You. We lack the faith in You to do Your will for us. In prayer, please help all of us to surrender our wills unto You.  Our walk of faith is a process, just like my Iron Lung was to me. For when we surrender our hearts and spiritual health to You–You surely give us all the nourishment we need.  Amen

Prayer for All Saints, Especially St. Luke – October 20, 2017

October 20, 2017 by Jack Emmott Leave a Comment

Heavenly Father- I give thanks unto Thee for all Your Saints, for through their works and sacrifice in service unto You, I have seen the Light of Christ.    Although Your Saints have equal rank in Your sight, I am especially thankful for St. Luke, the Patron Saint for artists, writers and physicians.   Artists have shown me the beauty of the world You created for me.  Beauty which far exceeds the ugliness of polio.   As a writer, I have penned words which have come from You, not me, for You are the true Author of all creation.   Through the saintly skills of my physicians and surgeons, what could be remedied with the hands of man was repaired.  That which could not be repaired was healed by Your unconditional love for me.

Amen

If you like this prayer, please share.

At the Pasadena South Rotary Club, June 7, 2017

June 8, 2017 by Jack Emmott Leave a Comment

On Wednesday, June 7, 2017, I had the pleasure of speaking to members of the Pasadena South Rotary Club. My presentation was entitled Rotary’s Polio Plus Campaign and the Collaborative Law Process: Therapeutic Healing for the World.

As of April 2017 there were only five cases of polio in the World limited to Pakistan and Afghanistan. This is in sharp contrast to the 48,000 cases in America when I had polio in 1954. The work that over 5,000 Collaborative Professionals do in 27 countries around the globe will never prevent conflict as Rotary eliminates polio. However, conflict in relationships with others can be resolved in a peaceable, client-centered, private and interest-based resolution process. Children around the world will be less victimized by adversarial divorce. Prevention from harm and healing of relationships go hand in hand.

Imagine a world in which no child knows what polio is.

I dream of a world in which peaceable resolution of interpersonal conflict is selected before resort to adversarial litigation.

Pictured here with me are Charles Davis and Linda Nagel, Rotarians.
